At long last
For those who have been following this page, you know that it’s been a while since I’ve gone to play my own music. Some of this was planned - after the birth of our son, I knew I would need time away. After my mother’s passing, that need became even more critical. The plan was never to stay away for good, of course, it was just a matter of finding the right time. But that’s the problem - there’s never a ‘right time’. There’s always a reason not to do something. So, when I was feeling optimistic, I booked a couple of gigs at Bar Chord, my favorite neighborhood hang. The first one is in a couple of weeks, and I am really excited about the lineup that I’ve put together. If you’ve been to one of these nights, you know the deal - a bunch of songwriters take turns playing songs and back each other up as kind of a ‘house band’. Loose, easy and fun. This one should hopefully be all of those things. So that will be July 29 at 9:00, sharing the stage with Kyle Lacy, Sarah Wise and Jerry Cherry.
I’m also headed to Chicago a few days after the Bar Chord gig to do something I’ve never done before - play (or attend) Lollapalooza. Lucky for me, my friend Joanie Leeds is playing the kids stage the Thursday and Friday of the festival, so I’m going with! That’s August 1 & 2, for those of you keeping score at home. Also, later in August my friends in Food Will Win the War are putting out a new EP and celebrating with a show at Evil Olive in Williamsburg. Although I’m not playing regularly with FWWtW these days, I did a bunch of keyboard work for the record and am excited to get back together with them for this show. What can I say? After playing with that band for 6 years, old habits die hard.
Good things ahead. Stay tuned.
