Hello? Is this thing on?

It’s admittedly been a while since I checked in here. What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this past year and change? It’s nice to have something to update, so I’ll get right to it.

First off - I’m back to playing shows! Some are shows where I’ll do my own music, others where I’m a sideman or accompanist, helping realize the visions of other artists and performers. Honestly I’m stoked to be doing any and all of it. It has taken only a few gigs for me to realize just how much I missed making music with other human beings. I’ll be adding all of those shows to the calendar page as soon as I post this, so be sure to check there for updated dates and other info.

Next - I’m making a new record! It’s looking like an EP, with a phenomenal band lead by all-star guitarist, producer and really good dude Mark Marshall. I’ll have more to say about the record and the new songs soon, but for now I can say that we are starting recording next month and I believe this is going to be unlike anything I’ve ever recorded.

I’ve also caught (or re-caught) the composing bug over the past year and am in the middle of writing 7 short choral pieces as part of a larger suite. Of course, choral music (and everything choir-related) stopped with the pandemic, but I am hoping to get a working draft of the whole piece and will look for an ensemble to premiere it in the coming year. For now, I’m just excited to be getting back into composing. This piece has stretched and challenged me in ways I’ve not been in many years.
